What is widely seen as paranoia or laughable conspiracy theories can quickly transform into fact. Just take these recent news items:

Vaccines containing mercury can be linked to "autism-like symptoms" in children.

There are drugs in the water and this has kept secret from you for fear that you "might be unduly alarmed".

It's amazing. If a week ago I had said that were drugs in my tap water, I would have been labeled as schizophrenic. If I say the same thing today, I'm just someone who reads the news. However, I would have been just as right a week ago or even a year ago. It goes to show the truth in that old saying: "Just because your paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you".

Actually, thimerosal (the mercury compound in question) has been phased out of vaccines for several years now. Autism diagnoses have not gone down, as was expected. I'm willing to concede that something in very recent history is responsible for all these new autism diagnoses, and it may even be mercury, but it's probably not the vaccines. There are other sources of mercury, though -- I'd look more into those.

As for the drugs in the water? This must be why I'm such a horny bastard -- lots of people in my area popping viagra like candy, and some of it ends up in the water supply!

Okay, seriously. I agree that we use too many drugs in this culture. Too many people use antibiotics frivolously; this not only laces the water with antibiotics, but creates resistant bacterial strains. Too many people drug their kids to make them easier to manage. And in my part of the country, too many twenty-somethings pop viagra recreationally.

I'll grant that all drugs have a place... but most of them are overused.

On the other hand, there are lots of substances that occur naturally in food we eat, some of which are toxic in larger doses, so I refuse to worry all that much. Licorice, acorns, rhubarb, taro root, even potatoes contain traces of poisons. As for other drugs, both licorice and soybeans contain phytoestrogens -- and I found an article once that claimed that soy milk causes male children to be fragile gay men with small penises when they grow up.

We can strive to avoid doing further damage on our own -- but exposure to small amounts of foreign substances is a fact of life.

WND is all kinds of awesome -- just none of the kinds that they intend to be.

A guy walks along the city street.

He passes a newspaper kiosk.
A headline reads "Patriot Act Passed".

He passes by surveillance cameras
recording his every move.

He goes into a restaurant to buy a sandwich.
He sees more cameras recording the patrons
and the employees.

At the bus stop there is another camera
and a sign saying 'report anyone suspicious'.

Police cars with hidden cameras installed roll by,
policeman watching his every move from within.

Finally, feeling sick, the guy goes to the
hospital.

He tells them, "I feel like I'm being watched"

And they tell him:

"We're going to put you in for observation".

After a while in there, he realizes that he
is right people are watching him.

And so then, he can go home.

"five vaccines the girl received on one day in 2000 aggravated her mitochondrial condition, predisposing her to metabolic problems that manifested as worsening brain function 'with features of autism spectrum disorder.'"

I wonder what that condition was.

The statement that I would think that someone likely to be labeled as schizophrenic would make would be "They are putting drugs in my tap water," and if probed, they would probably declare it to be clinical levels of whatever drug, whereas someone reading the news today is probably not overly surprised that trace amounts of drugs are included in the pollutants we already knew about. I don't think someone who declared a week or a year ago that pharmaceuticals were probably included in the pollutants would have been labeled as schizophrenic, although they probably would have been written off as a mildly over-concerned environment nut (but a sub-clinical amount of nuttiness).

I don't believe that They (a vast, hidden conspiracy) have it personally in for me (out of all people, why am I so important that they devote so much manpower to foiling me?) -- but I do believe that they (masses and masses of stupid and mind-numbed bureaucrats and other humans similarly damaged by society) are taking shortcuts and easy actions that put me, and many other people, at significant risk.

Either way, I'm still at risk, but I refuse to ascribe personal malice and careful organization to something that is overwhelmingly likely caused by the human will to be stupid.

I was basically the only person I knew to take interest in the early reports of what turned out to be Project Echelon. I frequently had people dismiss or mock me as paranoid. Pictures of "the most secure fifteen acres on the planet" didn't help. French accusations regarding it's misuse for industrial espionage didn't help. That didn't mean their phone calls weren't being intercepted. It's Plato's Parable of the Cave.

re: thimerosal, it may (or not) have been phased out of children's vaccines, but it's still in most doses of the flu shot, which is why they ask if you're allergic to it before administering one. And the poor kid; five vaccinations simultaneous seems like begging for something to wrong with an immune system. I made the mistake of getting a flu vaccination and a Hep A at the same time and got put on the couch for two days.

re: drugs in the water. All I can say is it's about time somebody was allowed to publish this. Feminization of frogs and fish isn't new, and it wasn't hard to figure out what was going on, but now I'm less crazy when I say that urine of those on The Pill is hazardous waste. Hmmm. Of course, it never occured to me that caffine might be in the same category. For a while, I've been recommending dumping urine in the yard so soil bacteria will have more time to decompose everything, but somehow I don't think this news report is enough to make that look sane yet. You will all see, though, oh yes! Muahahaha!

word! (:
i wrote this to someone today about Gardasil, which i have found fishy from day 1 anyway.

"i will turn 30 in September and until Gardasil was invented, i, like everyone else has been saying, had never heard of HPV, and although i'd heard of cervical cancer, i had never known anyone to get it. All of a sudden, a vaccine comes out for this virus.. a vaccine being mandated for young women to get. It's such a threat to young women that even the uninsured are being able to get the vaccine for free? Since when is ANYTHING free? If you are poor and dying of cancer you don't qualify for free medical care, so why is this free? this "vaccine" for a virus no one has ever heard of? i am not against all vaccines or medications. If you have a real illness, meds can help, and vaccines can be helpful if you are running a high risk for a disease, but Gardasil doesn't prevent or treat anything... but it does give people cancer. Even my friends who have the cancer, still think it is because they were "promiscuous", but i've had promiscuous friends all my life, and the only one's who got cervical cancer had taken Gardasil.
its just incredibly fishy"
