I agree it was ball less, and I made my retort too
omg...every time they make a screw up like this I just wonder what is going to be next. Personally I dont think it was a good decision for them business-wise either. We never would have joined at first if there had not been free accounts. Then we got hooked and have had many plus or paid accounts over the years.
And just after I made a positive LJ post, too! Now I have to go and make a negative one again!
This site has been a bunch of bullshit for a while, now. If people want to give me paid accounts, fair enough, but I haven't paid for one myself in over a year. I will not financially support this site. And I will tell you this, this site is FAR from the cool place you introduced me to years ago. And that is a fucking shame, because this place WAS cool back in the day.
I want to leave LJ. What sites are out there?
That's been the problem, all sites out there have drawbacks. Blurty seems nice, but it lacks tags and tags are how I organize my journal. DeadJournal is, well, dead. All accounts on GreatestJournal are Plus anyway, so it would be silly to move there over this issue. InsaneJournal has potential, but is very pre-themed. Myspace, Facebook, and and Blogger are still more corporate than LiveJournal. VOX and Wordpress are run by SixApart.
Out of those choices, InsaneJournal is, in my opinion, the best. But, I'm still reluctant to move there. I've been thinking of hosting my journal myself, however that has drawbacks itself. By virtue of being a large site, LiveJournal can use sitewide tracking tools to eliminate spam. I would have to deal with much more spam. In addition to the spam problem, I would lose any community aspect to my journal, which is something I value.
Myspace and Facebook are IMHO, only for those with an IQ less than 10. Sure, I have an account at Myspace, but I beg all my friends that if they really love me they'd get accounts at either LJ or IJ. :)
I've been using Blogger for my recipe collection, my writing archive, and a mirror of my personal journal. Blogger is great for the first two, but they are seriously lacking in the community area. Plus they are rather blah, appearance wise.
I just wish there was something as good as LiveJournal used to be.
Oh, and to add: I hear GreatestJournal is giving up the ghost. I forget the details but it has to do with something not working right and their refusal to fix it.
There's InsaneJournal.
A number of us migrated over there back in... What? August? The choices are limited to free (with ads) and paid (without), but my impression of the owner is that they aren't going to yank your chain. | |
