I doubt I'll leave over the removal of basic accounts. I've already stopped recommending this site to new people, so after grumbling and griping a bit, I'll probably just get on with my journaling. If there is a true mass exodus, I'll join it. But right now, as much as I dislike the direction LiveJournal is going, there still isn't anywhere good enough to entice me away from my permanent account. With all the effort involved in changing journal sites and moving my old entries, another site will not just have to be somewhat better — it will have to be a whole hell of a lot better. |

Wait? They're ditching basic accounts? Why?
It boils down to three simple reasons: money, money, and money.
since I'm not willing to continue paying for an account, my account will convert to sponsored in October. Differenceblog will migrate starting monday. All of D-blogs posts are already on blogger, although the tags aren't transferred.
Accounts created before March 12, 2008 still have the option of changing to basic even if they are currently another account type.

Huh. That wasn't how I read the "announcement" (the comment) but on second look, it does seem that they meant it that way.
I'm not comfortable counting on it, and I still plan to migrate both my journals off of LJ as soon as possible, but I will maintain the usernames for commenting purposes. *sigh*
I actually like accounts in Plus status...gives me more photo hosting room.
I switched to Flickr for photo hosting about a year ago. Unfortunately, now I'm concerned that they'll be part of microsoft, and I'll have to switch to Google's image hosting.
what's so wrong with MS that you'd have to switch?
I started with a basic account but switched to a plus account when they first became an option.
The people that seem most incensed by this are people that create masses of multiple journals for whatever reason.
(I don't like the fact it wasn't openly announced though)
Where is the information about this? I saw the "news" posting related to it, but don't see the actual information about what's going to happen anywhere... | |
