| Missing a Bird | ||
Every time I bring the birds out of their cages or put them back in, I feel I've missed someone, then I realized it is Statler. I wish he was still here.

| Good Journey, Statler | ||
Statler died today. We didn't know the plastic vines we were using to decorate the cage had strings in the middle of them. The birds had stripped the plastic from parts of the vine and Statler got tangled and hung himself in the string. I feel so guilty. I wanted to give him a better life.

| Skye Is Home | ||
Skye is home!! She had prepidil (prostaglandin) applied topically but hadn't pasted the egg when I came in to visit her. On my way home from the visit, I got a call saying she had passed the egg! She passed it as they were preparing to put her under anesthesia for ovocentesis. She didn't have to have it done and now my Skye bird is home where she belongs!

| Skye Egg Bound | ||
Skye is at Angell Memorial. She was admitted last night and is egg bound. She has an abnormally large egg in her. She's getting an additional calcium shot tonight, but if she hasn't passed the egg by morning our options are ovocentesis or prostaglandin. Both are risky. Please keep Skye in your thoughts and prayers.

| Statler and Waldorf | ||
Yesterday morning, ( +1 ) ----- Statler and Waldorf home safe and sound, I had to head out to my endocrinology appointment, which went well. It is obvious that my endocrinologist is still not entirely comfortable with me being off psychiatric medication and not in therapy, even though it has been years and I'm doing fine. At least at this point she no longer suggests I go back to either. She did, however, suggest I see my primary care provider. I won't, I don't trust my pcp anymore. However, my endo let slip the name of a primary care doctor popular who is popular with her trannie patients that I'm going to check out switching to. ----- After they got done taking my blood, I went over to see Ila. She has been teaching me Telugu script, though the words we've been going over have been Sanskrit. This week I need to practice writing conjunct consonants. I think the script is beautiful and am grateful for the opportunity to attempt to learn it. Ila seems to enjoy showing it to me — which is good, otherwise she probably wouldn't.

| Two Trips to Mount Auburn | ||
I've been to Mount Auburn Cemetery twice this weekend. Yesterday, I went with Ila. We walked up the winding paths and climbed to the top of the tower. The sky was overcast, which served to deepen the reds, gold and purple that extended to the horizon in one directions and to the Boston skyline in the other. Today, Skye had her bi-weekly lupron shot. After the shot,

| Equinox | ||
Prince Henry's test results came back yesterday, and he got a clean bill of health. He got to fly with everyone else for the first time. Sir Dubbins freaked out and had to go back to his cage, but the budgies didn't seem mind him much. None of the budgies approached him too closely, but it was evident Skye wanted to. We're not going to have Prince Henry and Sir Dubbins out at the same time until they get a little more used to the idea of each other. I went to a equinox dinner yesterday at lady_babalon's and After leaving the equinox dinner, I went over to

| Not Doing So Well Today | ||
Fed the birds. Skye got out while I was feeding her. She's in condition, but as none of the other budgies are out I figured I'd just let her fly around a bit. Not being able to get into any of the cages, she crawls into the tray of the big cage. I had to fish her out then turn off the lights so I could get her back into her cage. After all that, I sat down at my computer and promptly vomited on my keyboard. I don't feel particularly ill, and I don't know why that happened. Luckily the keyboard still seems to work.

| The New Mix | ||
I made a new budgie mix today and I think this might be the best mix yet: Apple Carrot Harvest Beak Appétit, budgie seed mix, egg food, flax, oat groats, peas, corn, papaya, honeydew, clementines, and blackberries. The reviews are in: they love love love it!

| Thankfuls | |||
Good morning. I had a wonderful thanksgiving. In yesterday's post on thanks giving, I wrote about one aspect of thankfulness. However, there are many aspects of thankfulness and there is much I am thankful for. The following is an incomplete list:

| The View from Above | ||
While I was sitting on a bench on the shore Spy Pond last week, I found myself looking down from above at Spy Pond and the autumnal trees of Elizabeth Island. Whether this was some sort of spontaneous out of body experience or a product of dissociation combined with vertigo and a high aptitude for spacial transitioning, I do not know. Regardless of how I got there, it brought my thoughts to the budgies. The budgies get a lot of out-of-cage time. They fly around a lot in Lake's apartment. But it's not the same. The room has a ceiling and walls. The room has limits and I wish I could give them the sky. They are birds, that freedom is their hatchright. It seems unfair to keep them contained, but there is no realistic other option. To set them free in New England, especially on the dawn of winter, would be to give them death sentences. We do our best to give them the closest to what they deserve as possible. We try to give them what we hope is a better life than they would have in the wild: providing a constant food supply, healthcare, and freedom from predators. It might not be enough, but it is all that we have to offer.
