Puppies and Orangutans

By now, most have heard about the video of U.S. marine throwing puppy off a cliff in Iraq. This sort of behaviour isn't new to war. There was a Vietnam veteran in Cahill 3 with me. He told me a story that seems now eerily similar to this.

The guys in his unit called the orangutans "rock apes", because they would catch rocks you threw at them and then throw the rocks back. They had fun playing catch with the orangutans until one day one of the guys in the unit decided to pull a pin out of a grenade and throw it at an orangutan . Of course the orangutan caught the grenade and was blown to pieces. That ended the fun they had with the orangutans. The difference is that they didn't have camera phones then.

Should we be surprised by this sort of behaviour? These soldiers have been sent to kill people. Most humans view other animals as less than human. If they're killing people left and right, what's the odd puppy or orangutan ? Who is more evil then: the marine that killed the puppy or the politicians sent him over there to kill?

Asking Me

I've been invited to talk to a psychiatrist at Cambridge Hospital regarding appropriate treatment of transgendered persons in inpatient units. I hope that I responded to the message in time, they called me last week but my cell phone does an extremely poor job at telling me I have voice mail (remember that if you leave me voice mail and I don't respond). They suggested that after my experiences in 2005, I'd surely have some input, and I definitely do. I will say this though, even with all the problems I had and witnessed on Cahill 3 a couple years ago, I'd still rate the Cambridge Hospital impatient units as the best of the many that I've locked up in. I hope I can be of assistance in making improvements.

“Good morning!

We got some more ice last night, the top of one of my parents trees came down. And while we have electricity this morning, we have no telephone or dsl. I'm calling in on my cell phone which apparently still works...

I... got my tickets last night for the rest of my trip. Two tickets to London, where I'll be picked up, and then go to Saint Thomas from there. And er, then tickets back from London to Boston.

And I guess, well. I'll fill you in on yesterday. I had a good time. We all, felt great to be here with my brother and sister, Maddie and Jonas, Christian and Heather, and of course my mum and dad. It's been the whole family, it's something that hasn't really happened in a long time.

i've been having a great time. The ice makes it a bit surreal, but if you know me surreal is good.

I guess that's it for the update this morning. I'll probably do more updating because, you know, I'm addicted to LiveJournal. I make lots of updates. So... that is all.”

“It's 9am here, and there's about a 3/4ths a centimeter of ice over everything outside. Not that much, but enough to pull the powerlines down so that we have no electricity here at my parents house.

Looks like this weekend will be spent mostly just sitting in the house.

The light flowing through the ice does make for some nice photographs, and I have taken a couple this morning.

I'm not quite fully awake yet, and I will make a fully lucid voice post one of these days — I promise. I just haven't in the last couple.

I should conserve battery power, I don't know when I'll be able to recharge this cellphone.”

“I'm at logan airport. I only got 1 hour of sleep last night, so it's gonna be a long day.

I'm waiting for my flight. I got here quite early, which I always end up doing. So, it leaves at 7.

I feel sort of like a zombie.

Just stay awake.

I..I only got 1 hour of sleep last night. It's going to be a long day.

I forgot to charge my phone all the way, so I'm gonna have to conserve power.

I'll probably sleep on the plane.”

An Account

I have a checking account. It's been almost a year without an account. I chose Citizen's Bank, because the cashiers were always nice and helpful when I came in to cash my SSDI check. Other banks would consistently give me grief. It feels odd. First a cell phone (temporarily out of commission), now a bank account. I feel all modern-aged.

Breaking and Breaking Through

Date and Time  - Aug. 6th, 2006, 10:33 am

Current Mood  - calm calm
Current Music  - fan

I broke my new cell phone last night.

I guess I'm not up to speed with all this new fangled technology. The phone crashed while I was trying to take a picture of [info]mazzycat. I tried to reset the phone, and couldn't find a reset button. I saw a small hole just wide enough to stick a safety pin in. Thinking this was the reset button that is often found on older electronic devices, I stuck a safety pin in it. However, it was not the reset button, it was the microphone and it was destroyed.

I completely freaked out, and went deep into hating myself. I felt I can't take care of anything. I looped that I lose or break or otherwise damage or taint everything I come in contact with. Escalating all the way.

After a neitherday walk (a slightly creepy one, as neitherday walks on weekends aren't as safe feeling), I realized that I can use an auxiliary microphone. I will superglue it to the phone, as I will need it anytime I use the phone. It will essentially be the main microphone. The phone will be jerryrigged, like everything that is truly me and mine. It is perfect and meant to be.

I need to be more mindful of the fact that obstacles are just part of the plan. They make life interesting and the make life go where life would not otherwise have gone. Keep calm and do not fight the wind.

Voice Post: In Buffalo

“I'm in Buffalo, and it's neitherday; the time between days. I slept through Syracuse, and I'm in Buffalo, as I already said. I'm not actually that tired, but I am a bit discombobulated. I got a lot of good sleep on the bus, which was OK... uncomfortable... And I will be crossing the border soon! And that will probably mean the end of the voice posts because I don't know the voice post numbers after I cross the border.

I'm using the pay phone at the station because my battery is almost dead. I wasn't conservative enough in the use of my cell phone, and I don't want to run the battery out the rest of the way because I still want to be able to use it if any sort of emergency or need would arise.

But... yeah, I'm *laugh* just getting used to owning one! This is the first time I've ever owned a cell phone, ever! And it's kind of strange-feeling. I beep, now. I never really did that, before.

So.. though, no one's called me, yet, so I've never really heard the noise that my cell phone makes. And... I guess that's it for this update. My next update will probably be from Canada, or at least hopefully will be.”

“Good hello, Livejournal Land! I'm making this post from my new cell phone which John got me -- yay, John! -- got me it for the trip. I'm heading off, we're just passing through Newton, which I guess is the first stop, and then a stop in Worcester, and then Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo, where I'm going to be having a layover from 3:35AM 'til 4:45AM. Whoo! That does not sound fun. Then to Toronto, to London, and then Saint Thomas. And, I will be there! And I will get to see Amber. That will be great. *laughs* I will be very excited and probably very tired.

And then I will be heading back on the 4th and getting home on the 5th. But, on my way back, I have a five-and-a-half hour layover in the evening, in Buffalo. So, I have no idea what to do for five-and-a-half hours in Buffalo. If anyone is from Buffalo, or knows the Buffalo area, and can tell me if there is actually anything to do in Buffalo, which, I don't know if there actually is... or might even want to meet me, because that would be great, and I'm always interested in meeting new people. But, more likely, just tell me what I can do in Buffalo for five-and-a-half hours. That would be great, because I have no clue.

I will be heading home. We are stopping at Newton, and we are at the commuter rail stop in Newton where they pick up the bus passengers. And... I guess, that is this post! Hello, goodbye!”

From Boston to Saint Louis

Date and Time  - Apr. 25th, 2006, 09:08 am

I wasn't doing well yesterday before I got to the airport, and when I realized I didn't have the correct information with me after [info]purpleglitter dropped me off, I broke down. However, I called [info]purpleglitter who connected me with my mom on a conference call via [info]purpleglitter's cell phone and I got the information I needed.

From that point on, the trip went pretty smoothly. The people on the planes and at the airports were extremely nice to me. I was worried about going through security as a dissident tranny, but I passed without any problems. Perhaps that I was dressed conservatively and pass well these days helped in that regard.

.....

Jonas is extremely cute. He knows his states and can say the alphabet and count to 100 both in English and Spanish. He just turned 2 last month, and he's wikkid smaht. I'm going to introduce him to Indian food this afternoon, we will be having methi mutter malai for lunch.
