Spirited Away by Rose Red

Date and Time  - Jun. 11th, 2006, 10:39 am

Current Mood  - mellow mellow
Current Music  - fan

[info]purpleglitter and I watched Spirited Away last night. We both loved the movie. Like something out of a dream, surreal and mad. No one dimensional characters, in fact nothing in the movie was one dimensional. The paradigm shifts constantly throughout and the end is so far from where the story began, that even it's shadow cannot be seen.

[info]purpleglitter usually professes to hate all anime. Actually she professes to hate all animation in general. But there have been exceptions to her dislike of animation, such as Grave of the Fireflies andThe Lion King. So, in reality she's just very picky and tends to go for the well-written and produced feature films rather than the animated series. She strongly dislikes the silly and slapstick side of animation which tends to be very heavy in the series. She also dislikes the high-pitched shrilly voices that are found in many animations. She likes good writing, a good story, and painting-like scenes.

The night before last, [info]purpleglitter and I watched The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer with [info]recoiling. The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer is the prequel to Rose Red. It further develops the back story and was interesting to watch. However, the movie would not be able to stand well on its own, and would be unlikely to appeal to anyone who is not already a fan of Rose Red.

Movie Losers

Date and Time  - Dec. 20th, 2005, 11:37 am

Current Mood  - mellow mellow
Current Music  - traffic

gacked from many:
If you've seen over 70, you have no life. Number the ones you've seen. Post your score and feel like a loser.

movie list )

Grand total: 63

Other than the inherant bias of the person who picked the moives and the absurdity of the idea that watching particular movies makes one a loser, this survey is biased against people who have lived longer and therefore have had more time to watch movies. While still being ridiculous, it would be better if the question at top were changed to "Number the ones you've seen in the past five years.". This would probably neccisate a lowering of the critical number, but at least make it more of a gauge of recent movie watching habits.

Vet Time

Date and Time  - Dec. 2nd, 2004, 07:33 am

Current Mood  - mellow mellow
Current Music  - traffic

took [info]madeleinecat to the vet yesterday
she had just gotten in a fight with spyder right before i had to put her into the carrier
she was hiding under the bed afraid (spyder is a much bigger cat)
i had to pull her out from under the bed
in doing so she attacked my hand and gave me many bites and scratches
[info]madeleinecat had the amazing ability to transform form a cute cuddly cat into a angry ball of fangs and claws
she preformed this feat for the vet as well
the vet put her in a net to give her her shot
he didn't want to handle her
she was very pet cemetery cat
but she's going to be all better
found out she has an infection on her belly (already guessed that), has arthritis, and doesn't have ear mites
i just have to give her her medicine every day
that should be an adventure

[info]recoiling came over and we watched Rose Red, in my opinion one of the best horror movies ever made. [info]iamacliche came over toward the end of the movie. It was great seeing them. We live so close, there is no excuse for us not getting together more often.

Rocky Horror

Date and Time  - Dec. 13th, 2003, 12:21 pm

Current Mood  - mellow mellow
Current Music  - traffic

Went to Rocky Horror with [info]dicotomygrrl (who played Dr. Scott) last night. I had fun, but would have had more if it weren't for two things. 1 – My UTI acting up. 2 – The asshole shouting anti-Semitic comments during the show.

It's been years since I've seen Rocky. It's changed so much since last time I went. Rocky Horror used to be about acceptance of everyone. That message seems lost nowadays. I don't want to be an old foot longing for the good old days. But in some ways I am. Ah well, it is still an enjoyable experience, I'm glad I went.

It's Lake's Birthday

Date and Time  - Sep. 30th, 2003, 11:46 am

Current Mood  - pensive pensive
Current Music  - traffic

I walked to [info]purpleglitter's apartment at 1:00am so she didn't have to wake up alone on her birthday. It's nice that she lives in Arlington now, and I can just walk over. Especially as her car is in the shop.

-----

I forgot to bring my foundation with me, so I'm going to have to walk back home without any makeup on. I plan to play Cousin It, and cover my face with my hair. I learned that trick in the hospital, because it often would be some time before I'd get someone to watch me with sharps in the morning, so I'd have to walk around with my face unshaved. Not wanting anyone to see that, I'd cover my face with my hair. Sometimes the staff would gripe at me "Let's see your face." or "You can't walk around like that.", but I would generally ignore them.

In the Mouth of Madness

Date and Time  - Sep. 14th, 2003, 03:08 am

Current Mood  - happy happy
Current Music  - Weiss Kreuz - Velvet Underworld

Watched In the Mouth of Madness with [info]purpleglitter. Very good movie, I'd seen before. Somehow, I'd forgotten how gory the movie was. But I did remember correctly how delightfully twisted the movie is. It's on my movie list. I'm probably going to watch it again before I return it.

Thanksgiving Memories

Date and Time  - Nov. 29th, 2002, 01:15 pm

Current Mood  - content content
Current Music  - Enya - Hope Has a Place

The Thanksgiving Potluck was small and cosy, as expected. The improvised stuffing turned out better than I expected. We've decided to call it "heathen stuffing". I'll be posting a recipe for it sometime in the near future.

Sitting at the table with wine and food and friends is what Thanksgiving is all about for me. Stuffed bellies and smiling faces. Warm happy memories to keep close by in the approaching dreariness of January and February.

-----

After dinner, we watched The Others, a wonderful movie I'd seen before but was happy to see again. We then watched the Eddie Izzard tape Mitzi brought over. I'd never seen Eddie Izzard before, and I must say he is incredibly funny. Mitzi has impeccable taste in comedy. I'm definitely going to try to see more tapes of his stand up routines.

Do You Admire the View

Date and Time  - Nov. 19th, 2002, 04:29 am

Current Mood  - sleepy sleepy
Current Music  - Poe - Fly Away

Around 7:00pm, Mitzi came over to watch Stigmata, a movie I recently purchased.

Before the movie, we decided to get pakoras. I hadn't eaten anything, and thought I might eat with someone else. It is sometimes easier to do that when I can convince myself it is an expected social activity. I don't know if I can pull off the same thing tomorrow, I'll see when I get there. I also know one order of pakoras is not a good nutritional intake for the day, but it is better than nothing.

pillowkisser joined us for the movie. She is a fabulous roommate. I love living with someone that not only accepts my psych issues, but can relate to many of them as well. Much can go unsaid, but understood. I think we can help each other a lot.

-----

Mitzi told me that Bob of Sinister was hit by a car last week. What is it with my friends getting hit by cars this year? First Kat, now Bob. Bob is at home recovering, but he had brain hemorrhaging, and it is unknown if there will be permanent damage. Please let there not be. Bob is such a kind, wonderful, gentle soul. I hope and hope he keeps all the gifts he has.

-----

Around 11:00pm; pillowkisser, [info]riga_mortia and I went to [info]purpleglitter's apartment and she drove us back. The reasons we had to go over there just to come back were complicated, but I'm glad she made the trip. [info]purpleglitter and I had some very good talks in my room. I miss what we once had. I'm glad we're still close close friends. And, that as close close friends, we can still share so much with each other. But, losing what we had was the biggest mistake of my life.

Surprise Visit

Date and Time  - Nov. 9th, 2002, 03:04 pm

Current Mood  - grateful grateful
Current Music  - silence

[info]dan4th surprised me by randomly showing up at the [info]house_of_clocks.

We got pakoras for lunch at Chai Café in Arlington Center. The pakoras at Punjab are yummy and cheap. Punjab's tamarind sauce is excelent as well. Good tamarind sauce is a necessity to smother the pakoras in. I have a feeling I'm going to become a regular customer.

After lunch, [info]dan4th took me to the hardware store where I picked up some things for a project I'm working on at the [info]house_of_clocks.

Next we went to a tent sale at Video Horizons. I picked up two movies: Stigmata and Cecil B. Demented.

[info]dan4th is a wonderful friend. One that I'm time and time again thankful I have. Things often seem much clearer after talking to him. I hope he randomly shows up more often.

Your Rockystar Boyfriend is Eddie! Sure, he's been in deep freeze for a while, but he's still hot as hell! If you like a rebel, Eddie's the lowdown cheap little punk for you.

The Flying Goblet

Date and Time  - Aug. 23rd, 2001, 11:42 pm

Current Mood  - amused amused
Current Music  - Cranes - Lilies

I just accidentally knocked my goblet of generic diet raspberry soda onto the floor. The floor looks like the aftermath of a murder in a low budget horror flick. No real harm done, except for a surprised and soda-covered Mazzy thinking, "Why me?"
