Back to the Meadow

Went to the Great Meadow with [info]purpleglitter this morning. It was [info]purpleglitter's first visit ever, as well as my first visit in over a year. The frost covered grass, a sea of white. Icy leaves sparkled as we past. We looked over the meadowlands as we sat and ate hummus and pita bread. The leaves are starting to change. Some fiery red underneath the veil of ice. I definitely want to go to the Great Meadow again before autumn is over.

Not 76°F

Yesterday afternoon, I went to the Great Meadow with [info]riga_mortia. According to weather.com the high yesterday was going to be 76°F. I can tell you with absolute certainty that it was much hotter than 76°F. I would have worn a significantly cooler outfit had I know what the temperature was really going to be. I was a sweaty mess by the time we reached the entrance to the Great Meadow.

Inside the Great Meadow, we walked for a while, until in the heat we could go no farther. We rested in some convenient shade. Unfortunately, a swarm of mosquitos had found the same shade convenient.

Avoiding the mosquitos we walked back to the clearing with the picnic table. There we ate strawberries and drank tea and enjoyed the beautiful view. The relaxation and happy conversations while staring over the swamplands made the rest of the trip worth it.

Walking back, we noticed that the temperature had cooled down a lot. I wish we had taken the trip and hour or two later, but we enjoyed ourselves, regardless.

Yesterday evening was spent with [info]purpleglitter. The cooling air made our respective intoxicants more refreshing. [info]purpleglitter was full of poems again last night. It's amazing watching her create. She has an energy unlike any other while she is writing. I love watching her. I love being with her while she writes. And, of course, I love reading (or being read) the finished product of her labors.

From Davis to the Meadow

I met [info]riga_mortia at the Diesel Café this morning, at around 11:00am. We had coffee, then I went to the Social Security office to hand drop off papers and hopefully meet with someone. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes and being told that I'd talk to the caseworker over the phone tomorrow, I met up with [info]riga_mortia again at Goodwill.

At Goodwill I found a fabulous blue dress that looks right out of the 50's. It goes perfectly with my cat's eye glasses.

[info]riga_mortia and I went back to my house, I changed, and we went to the Great Meadow. Decided to wear a pair of shoes that have been lying around the house for some time, but were falling apart. I very quickly screwed them back together before we left. Unfortunately on the way to the Great Meadow, the screws started poking up into my foot (the flat ends, not the pointy ends, but it still hurt my feet).

We had a very nice picnic of oranges, grapes, green olive tapenade on mini toasts, and green tea. The clearing we chose was very peaceful, sitting on the side of a hill with a nice view of the sun drenched meadow.

Getting up after the picnic, I learned a very important fashion lesson: white nylons are a poor choice if you plan on sitting on the ground..

On the way home, walking by Mal's Towing, one of the workers looked at me and said "How's it going?". Thinking nothing of it, I nodded and walked on. Annoyed he said that he was just trying to be polite because we were neighbors. I didn't recognize him as one of the downstairs tenants. I apologized and said I was just spacey. But, honestly, I still didn't recognize him.

Again the Meadow

Went to the Great Meadow with [info]grrldan and [info]merryperseis. It was beautiful and the sun trickled through the trees onto our smiling faces. We crossed the stepping stones and sat down in the first clearing we came to.

Our picnic lunch consisted of Fred & Ginger Trail Mix, green olive tapenade on mini toasts, marinated portobella mushrooms with roasted peppers, and orange-carrot juice. While we were enjoying our picnic in the bright sunlight, a dark cloud placed itself over our heads and proceeded to rain on us. It was sunny in every direction, with the exception of the gray rain cloud directly above. It hovered over our heads for a good ten minutes or so, before deigning to move on.

On the walk back, one of [info]merryperseis's feet slipped off a stepping stone and into the stinky bog. Luckily it was not at a deep point along the stones, but it did thoughoutly soak her shoe. However, the shoe dried quickly on the way home in the bright sun.

Into the Meadow

Went to the Great Meadow with [info]cobweb. We found an alternate route to the stepping stones. We crossed the stepping stones, but failed to find the Magik Pond. There are so many trails, it's hard to find the right one. Regardless, we had a great time walking through the meadow, taking in the views of the swamplands from the wooded hills. We must have gotten in at least 2 hours of walking, probably more.

I brought sandwiches of cheeze, spinach and thousand island dressing on oat bread in a picnic basket, and we had a picnic in a nice clearing. We drank green tea out of my amber coloured glass goblets. Very relaxing and peaceful.

I feel so much better after getting out and romping through the woods in my purple pajamas. I'm planning to make trips to the Great Meadow much more often.
