| Grapheme to Colour Synæsthesia | ||
Today on the bus home, during a mild and otherwise unremarkable vertigo episode, I experienced grapheme to colour synæsthesia for the first time. Letters, numbers, words having colour is a whole different level than mere sense switching. This isn't seeing sound or smelling touch, where sensory data can be dumped raw from one data stream to another. Graphemes must be processed from the raw sensory data before the colour can be attached to them and then the graphemes along with the attached colours must be dumped into the display process. Audio to visual synæsthesia is easier to understand, with harmonies creating the geometric patters and colours commonly associated with it. There need be no pre-storage of data. However, for graphemes to have specific colours associated with them, there must be some sort of data structure storing the associations. The existence of that data structure seems odd to me. I'd like to explore it more, as a more detailed knowledge of the connections involved could prove useful in mindware programming. Unfortunately, the experience was transitory and only lasted a few minutes. While for me it only affected one letter out of the alphabet, it was significant and stable for the brief time I experienced it.

| Green | ||
Many Americans are now buying greener cars, carpooling, and finding ways to save energy (and by doing so help the environment). There is renewed interest in expanding public transportation and utilizing gas free modes of transport such as walking or biking. Going green is no longer just for left wing crunchies. A quote generally attributed to Winston Churchill sums up the situation perfectly. The United States invariably does the right thing, after having exhausted every other alternative.

| Fare Hikes | ||
With the new MBTA fare hikes, it seems there is a desire make it more economically advantageous to buy a cheap used smog-belching car that otherwise would be heading to the junkyard than take public transit. This is because liberal Massachusetts is so concerned about fossil fuel use and air pollution.

| Waxing the Fall | ||
I've been having falling/dizzy spells/seizure/whatever the fuck it is issues again. I've had felt a bit more wobbly over the last week, but it's really spiked the last couple days. According to Yesterday was much worse than Friday. My morning walk an with Of course, there is no way of really knowing where this is going and when the cycle will wane again. I am using a cane/staff again when I go out and will until this bares itself out. I will not let these episodes keep me from going for my walks and other outdoor activities. I refuse to let this control my life. Sure, that increases the chance that I might be sent to the emergency room by the unduly worried — but that just means I'll have an opportunity for a cathartic release of anger at whatever asshole doctor I get. Works for me.

| Al Qaeda vs. the World | ||
I talk a lot about why United States foreign policy sucks, and why Bush is evil and just pissing everyone off around the globe. However, Bush isn't the only one pissing the world off. Al Qaeda and associated Islamic extremist groups are doing just as good a job at getting everyone to hate them as Bush is. Al Qaeda isn't just against the United States. Al Qaeda isn't just against the West. As today horrendous bombings in Mumbai reiterate, al Qaeda is against the world. Not only are all non-muslins their enemy, many muslins are as well. One of Bush's key failures has been not treating al Qaeda as a world problem that requires a world solution. Instead of concentrating on stopping terrorists, Bush and Company have turned the "war on terror" into an excuse to further U.S. imperialism. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend; and no one, not Bush, not al Qaeda, can take on the world.

| Game Night | ||
I had a good time at ----- The bus home was hellishly hot, and I had to get off half way into the trip and walk the rest of the way. I very much dislike the new buses the MBTA has be slowly replacing the old ones with. They have no openable windows, meaning that if it is too temperate for the air conditioner to be turned on, the body heat of the passengers turns the bus into an oven. Even when it is not temperate, the air conditioners can break down and there are bus drivers that believe air conditioning is not needed until the temperature exceeds 95 ºF (35 ºC, 308 K) . My hyperhidrosis ensures that I will become an grumpy and unhappy berv soaked in sweat in these circumstances.
