Someone from the abuse team responded to my support request. As typical with the abuse team, they picked out a couple key words in my message and sent an inappropriate form response.

Dear LiveJournal user,

In order to investigate this matter, we will need for you to go to http://www.livejournal.com/abuse/report.bml and follow the procedure described in http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=105. In particular, we will need specific links to the items you believe to be in violation of the Terms of Service. A brief summary of a situation, or a cut and paste of some of the content in question, is not enough for us to begin an investigation.

Regards,
Theresa
LiveJournal Abuse Team

I replied:

This is not intended to be an abuse report. I am pointing out a security hole and suggesting that it be fixed. I brought this up in the suggestions community, but I was told by the mod to bring it up here instead.

If you want a link, try http://www.livejournal.com/users/yaai3 (if you are running internet explorer it may crash your computer, otherwise it will just annoy you).

Redirect Abuse

Abuse of <meta http-equiv="REFRESH"> is becoming more rampant, 4 days ago I submitted a suggestion to [info]suggestions about banning the tag. However the moderator told me to bring up the issue with support. Seeing as the redirecting pages have a potential to cause much more problem than they currently do if they become more wide spread or become used for more malicious purposes than trolling. Seeing as all a user has to do to fall prey is to click on the journal in question, it's a big security hole, and it amazes me that LiveJournal hasn't done anything about the it already, seeing that they obviously know about it. With little confidence that it will actually be fixed until abuse is more wide spread, I entered the following support request anyway (clicking on the journals listed could crash your computer):

Journals like yaai3 and pok_cmap are abusing the tag, <meta http-equiv="REFRESH">. It is only a matter of time before spammers begin using this tag as well to redirect users to porn sites and/or sites containing adware and other malicious programs. This tag needs to be banned.

Made the Switch

I just switched my journal over to S2. I did this primarily because I wanted my tags to be functional. I have been lax at tagging my entries while the tags while I was with S1 and need to catch up. I'm currently using one of the default styles with almost no customization. It's pretty ugly, and I will eventually want to customize my layout, but when I will get around to it I do not know.

Tag Mess

Date and Time  - Jul. 11th, 2005, 03:37 pm

I need to fix my tags. There are plenty of typos and spelling mishaps that have snuck into my entries. This will be much easier to fix when I switch to S2, as I'll be able to search entries by tags. I'm very anal online, which is odd as I'm not usually anal IRL. At least I'm not now. Back when I played Magic: The Gathering, I was incredibly anal about deck and card organization. I used to be very anal about my dress and appearance as well. Not so much anymore. I don't have something of equivalent analness in my offline life currently, but I still see it's potential in things. I'm not sure what determines what I will and will not be anal about. However, I know that I have a strong desire toward analness with the tag system. The miscreant tags bother me greatly. I want to standardize them. It's a mess currently. I need to dive into S2 soon.

LiveJournal Plans

I'm thinking of moving all the pictures I've put on my account over the years onto the LiveJournal scrapbook system. If something happens and I can no longer host my site, all my LiveJournal pictures will become broken. However, if I have my picture uploaded to LiveJournal it will be around as long as LiveJournal is, as I have a permanent account. This seems a better option, but it will be a lot of work. I will probably do it as I go back and slowly tag my old entries. I also need to switch to S2 at some point, as I want my taggin effort to be useful.

Tag System

The tag system has me thinking of finally changing my journal over to S2. I've resisted the move for quite a while, but tags may just make it worth doing.

S2 Someday Maybe

Date and Time  - Jun. 26th, 2004, 05:51 pm

I'm thinking of switching to S2. A couple things keep me from making the switch.

First, I haven't really seen any S2 comments page layouts that are better than the S1 comments page layout. S1's comment page is a bastion of simplicity and functionality.

Second, I'd want switching to result in a better layout, which means putting time and effort into learning S2.

The only feature that I really want in my journal that is offered in S2 is the ability to put the correct userpic next to each entry in the recent view. I don't know if it's really worth it. If someone would make me an S2 style that I really liked, I might use it. But, I'm afraid I'm really picky. There's a good chance I'll reject whatever the person came up with, and that might result in hurt feelings. I'm especially picky about the comments page. Without a comments page layout as good or better than S1, I just don't want S2.

First S2 Attempt

I made my first attemt at changing my journal over to S2. The result was quite ugly. I don't feel like playing with it tonight, so I switched back to my S1 style. I'm sure it won't be long until I permenantly roll out a S2 journal style.

New Look

Date and Time  - Jul. 28th, 2001, 08:02 am

Current Mood  - accomplished accomplished
Current Music  - traffic and birds

Just gave my LiveJournal a new look. Changed the style, colors, and added a background my site. I was thinking of getting a paid account so I could customize the style, but I think it looks good enough now without doing so. At least, I don't think further improvement is worth the price to me at this point.
