Spring!!!

Date and Time  - Mar. 20th, 2008, 11:01 am

Current Mood  - optimistic optimistic
Current Music  - air purifier

Spring has arrived. Soon, the plants my sister and brother are sending me for my birthday will start arriving and I'll be able to put the compost to good use. They are sending me 3 butterfly bushes, 3 red latham raspberry bushes, and 6 oriental poppies. I'm very excited about gardening this year.

I haven't done any gardening since I rented the house in Columbia, Missouri and grew carrots out back. It was a very small house with a small yard, but it was a house with a yard and it was $185/month. Wow, that price seems great now, I couldn't rent a room for that around here these days. It's a different season here, in more ways than just not being winter anymore.

UPS Sucks

Date and Time  - Jul. 31st, 2007, 11:11 am

I just went down to UPS to return some Verizon components. Verizon had given us a return UPS label, so there wasn't really a choice who to use. I had to buy a box there, and for one small package box I was charged $4.50. U-Haul charges less than $4 for their large boxes. UPS apparently sells moving boxes as well now, but given the prices of their small shipping boxes, I can't imagine how much they're charging for the moving boxes.

UPS is rather pointless anyway (unless your a large corporation with a mass shipping deal). FedEx is faster and more reliable, the USPS is cheaper. UPS seems the worst of both worlds and I tend to avoid them unless I'm required to use them like today.

Moving

I've been holding off posting this until the lease was signed so as not to jinx things. However, getting everything done by snail mail between California and Massachusetts has been taking a bit longer than we anticipated, and I can't stand not to mention it. So at the risk of jinx, I post this anyway:

[info]purpleglitter and I are moving in together at the end of the month. We're moving into one side of a wonderful duplex in an historic district of Arlington. We're near the bike trail and a stream. I'm going to be able to see a good variety of birds just sitting on the back porch. The place is idyllic. I'm very excited.

I will miss the [info]house_of_clocks. Unlike last time, I will not be taking the clocks with me. Last time the household moved, this time it is individuals moving. It's the end of an era for me. Perhaps those who are in the house after me will continue the tradition, perhaps not. I hope they will, as it would make me happy if the [info]house_of_clocks still existed.

Things are changing so fast. You'd think I'd be used to rapid change by now. Perhaps I am, and I'd just have to experience a period of time without rapid change to notice.

I got a letter Friday from my primary care nurse. The letter was dated Tuesday, the day after I saw my endo. The letter informed me that she set me up with an appointment for an MRI (albeit non-gallium based). I guess my endo lit a fire under her ass. My endo is good.

I have an appointment with my primary care nurse tomorrow about getting an referral to a rheumatologist. The letters constitute a slight change is sea, and I am optimistic that my appointment tomorrow will go well.

“Greetings! I am on the bus, sitting at the station in Buffalo, New York. As I crossed the border to the U.S., I saw them shooting off fireworks! I guess they were excited I was coming back!

The trip here to Buffalo was nice, that I got a got a ride from Aleriel and Cait, but I kind of... got... sick on the way. It wasn't very pleasant. We had to pull over on the side of the road, and then again at a rest stop, and it was kind of miserable. But I ended up feeling better, and was feeling pretty good by the time we actually got here. It wasn't that bad, and I'm very grateful to Aleriel and Cait for giving me a ride.

I did forget one thing, which is natural: I forgot my camera battery back in Saint Thomas. *chuckles* Of course; cant' leave ---- something. And I did a double check and a triple check, to see if I forgot anything. But, alas, the camera battery is just a little black flat thing, and I guess I just missed it. I noticed it when I pulled the camera out to take a picture, that it was lighter and it didn't have the battery in it, but I figured it was just in the bag... but, alas, not. I had forgotten it. So, I guess I will ask Amber if she can send it to me. I hate to be a pain, but...

She's been so nice, it was so great seeing here. I know she doesn't feel that the trip went well, sometimes, because, y'know, it was too hot to do much, but I enjoyed just being around her and meeting her, and it was really cool, and I had a lot of fun! And, as I said before, if I knew that the trip was going to be as hot as it was, I would have still gone. And the last two days weren't hot, and I got out several times. And I went into town, and looked around the shops, and, generally, I liked the area. It was pleasant, relaxing, and I feel like I got a much-needed break. And I got to meet Amber in the process, which was excellent and wonderful!

And, I'm heading back home, which is also good, because I get to see Lake, and Anthea, and John, and Mazzy, and Lia, and Jymi, and everyone! And, it'll be great! And, I will be home soon! I get at home at 9:45 in the morning, I will be sleeping on the bus. Just a straight stop from Buffalo to Boston, you know, a couple stops, but no changing the bus.

So, I guess... that's the post! And I will be back in Boston very soon!”

I get back home and find a letter from MassHealth telling me my benefits were cut as of the 21st. I called the number on the letter immediately, as I know this is an error as I was told I would not be cut. I was told I'll get a call back tomorrow, but I'll be in the partial program then. I can't get my new prescription tonight. Grrrr... I'm going to call my intensive case manager tomorrow and talk to her about it.

I went to the therapy intake this morning. It went very well. I have a therapist I'm going to start seeing on a weekly basis. Finally, it seems I'm going to get the psych care I need.

After the intake, [info]purpleglitter drove me to pick up the keyboard my parents got me. Music. Music. Music. I'm going to play my soul.

Until today, we didn't know how to turn on the chandelier in the playroom. We thought it must be broken. However, today, [info]purpleglitter noticed a small knob on the side of the chandelier. No one had noticed it before. I turned it, and it fell off. Fell right into a glass of cider. And since the knob is solid brass, it made quite a splash. I put it back on and turned it the other way. The chandelier came to life.

-----

I received two letters from [info]vagrant in my post office box. I'm very excited to hear from her, and I hope she gets out of that place soon. It doesn't seem like she will, but I can still hope for her. I plan to send off a letter to her Monday.

I should have received her letters several weeks ago, but I haven't been checking my post office box very frequently. I should direct people send mail to my home address from now on. The post office box served a purpose before we moved. The mailbox at the old place wasn't very secure, and we had numerous instances of disappearing mail. However, here at the new [info]house_of_clocks, that isn't an issue.

-----

After dropping off Mitzi in Davis Square, [info]purpleglitter and I went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Winter Hill. I picked up several exciting new outfits. Everything I bought was half off! The most expensive article of clothing cost me only $2!! It was a very happy shopping experience.

Did some catching up on reading my friends page at [info]purpleglitter’s house. Haven't been able to read it much lately. I’ll try to keep up more regularly when my new apartment gets an internet connection.

I went to the post office today, and found that the scanner [info]borggrrl sent me had arrived. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but I’m very excited to be able to scan again.

Thank you, [info]borggrrl.

Bouncing Around Town

Current Music  - The Cure - Just Like Heaven

Ate at Yee’s Village with [info]purpleglitter and [info]riga_mortia last night. They both have been extremely helpful to me in many ways lately. I’m very grateful to both of them for their support.

[info]riga_mortia and I are going to be pen pals! We live really close to each other, true, but we’re going to start writing letters back and forth, anyway. I’m very excited.

-----

Today, [info]purpleglitter and I ran errands around town. We both voted and picked up cat supplies. I dropped a comment in the comment box of Cambridge Savings Bank. It read something like:

I love CSB. The candy and the coffee is a wonderful touch. It may seem little, but it makes the banking experience feel much more personal. I’m always recommending CSB to my friends.

I felt good leaving a good comment. CSB is so so much better than Fleet. Fleet simply sees customers as dollar signs. At CSB I feel like a person.

-----

On the agenda for tomorrow, I have a meeting with Susan, my MBHP intensive case manager, and Harriett, my community case manager. My lawyer has informed me that she wants to be present for the meeting as well. This should be interesting.

This afternoon, I talked to [info]vagrant on AIM. I haven't chatted with her in a long time. She's out for a day while they switch her to a different hospital. I hope she is able to experience some less transient freedom soon, she deserves it.

Hotmail's policy of deactivating an email accounts that are inactive for 30 days has screwed her over. She needs a free account that doesn't care if she can't access it for long stretches of time, so I gave her one at neitherday.com.

I also gave her my snail mail address. We're going to be pen pals.

-----

[info]purpleglitter came over this afternoon and brought me all sorts of goodies. While I do need to net reduce the amount of stuff I own, what she brought, sheets and fabric and drapes, will come in very handy when I decorate my new space, whatever it turns out to be.

-----

After [info]purpleglitter left, I got on the bus to meet [info]coolwhitestare. It was one of the strangest and most disturbing bus rides I've had. I'm still processing it. What it means. What I can learn from it. How things can be changed.

-----

I got off at the wrong stop, but still met [info]coolwhitestare at the Carberry's in Arlington Center on time.. We had coffee and many long conversations. I may have talked her ear off at points, but she seemed not to mind. She took several pictures of me while I talked. I hope they turn out well.

Current Mood  - thankful thankful
Current Music  - Eurithmics - Sweet Dreams

prettyshygrrl came over. We sat and talked for some time. She helped me blow off steam and get my bearings. I hope I did the same for her. She's a wonderful person, I wish the stormy seas could part for her, as well as for so many of my other friends. Far too many of my friends are struggling to weather tempests right now.

-----

prettyshygrrl gave me her old computer, a 300Mhz P2, which is 33% faster than my current computer. I'm going to have to do a bit of hard drive swapping before I can use it. With [info]borggrrl sending me a scanner to replace the one that was headbutted, I'll soon be moving ahead computerwise. Many many thanks to prettyshygrrl and [info]borggrrl!

[info]zarthon came over last night. Spent some time sitting around the livingroom and kitchen. Mostly idle chit chat. But, sometimes idle chit chat is good.

-----

Stressed out today. Dealing with Social Security Disability. They resent me some papers that I have to sign and send back (I lost them the first two times they sent them to me). Only the papers that they sent me are BLANK. Now I have to go into the office today to try to get them to print me out some more. If not, I have to wait until they can resend the forms yet again. I'm sure I'm highly annoying them. I hate bureaucracies! I have the sinking feeling I'm going to run through all these loops and wait and wait and then simply be turned down again. It's all very disheartening.
