Asking Me

Date and Time  - Aug. 6th, 2007, 12:23 pm

Current Mood  - awake awake
Current Music  - Nirvana - Lithium

I've been invited to talk to a psychiatrist at Cambridge Hospital regarding appropriate treatment of transgendered persons in inpatient units. I hope that I responded to the message in time, they called me last week but my cell phone does an extremely poor job at telling me I have voice mail (remember that if you leave me voice mail and I don't respond). They suggested that after my experiences in 2005, I'd surely have some input, and I definitely do. I will say this though, even with all the problems I had and witnessed on Cahill 3 a couple years ago, I'd still rate the Cambridge Hospital impatient units as the best of the many that I've locked up in. I hope I can be of assistance in making improvements.

“I talked to my landlord. She's upset about the hacking of the tree, too. There's nothing really anyone can do about it at this point, but she has given me authority to oversee any future work around the house or the yard by anyone to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, which is really good, that no work will go on unless there's someone there, in other words generally me, to supervise. Since she lives in California, she can't really come over and watch to assure things go smoothly. So, at least this won't happen again.”

Current Music  - Frank Sinatra - My Funny Valentine

Yesterday, [info]sophiaserpentia commented that she had heard Domina at Club Choices was canceled, but indicated that she was unsure of the accuracy of what she heard. To confirm this I looked online, but could only find one source and wasn't sure who the source was or how accurate they were. I called the number on the flier and the person who answered (apparently it's the promoter's cell number) didn't know if the night was happening or not. She said she'd call someone else and find out. Victor called after I did and she told him it was not canceled. So, we went and it was canceled. In my opinion, if you're going to put your number on promotional material under "Call for more info:", then you should be in the loop about the night. The people running the night really need to get it together.

We ended up going to Queeraoke at the Ramrod. I'd never been to the Ramrod before, but like anywhere I've gone with Victor he seemed to know everyone. I actually got up and sang, only the second time I've done karaoke. Unlike when I went as Phil to Glitterswitch Drag Karaoke at Club Hollywood many years ago, I wasn't absolutely horrible. I'm sure I wasn't memorably good by any stretch of the imagination, but at least this time I wasn't memorably bad.

“Now, so shortly after my last call, I talked to the Bell Rock Moving people and they said they are sending out a different truck and it would have been there in twenty minutes which would have, what, been almost an hour ago. And, uh, they are sending 4 guys so it will cost more money per hour for some reason, because they're late I guess?

But, we can't go with someone else at this point. I don't know what's up with these people. Um, but now I just talked to them and they said, "Oh, it's going to be twenty minutes". So, I mean, I could have done something with this time, but no, I sit around here waiting for these idiots.

I'm just getting very frustrated, it's one thing after another, they keep fucking up, and they're going charge me more for their fuck-ups and it's going to rain. If it thunderstorms they're going to sitting around here with their thumbs up their asses charging me per hour for it and they could have done it during the nice weather we had all morning.

Oh my gosh, I am very very angry at this point. Hopefully they'll arrive soon.

I wish I could just go with someone else. I really do. But at this point, you know, you have to hire movers in advance. You can't switch this day. I have to be gone today. I can't get anyone else. There's not time. I'll wait for these idiots.”

The movers I just talked to, they're going to be here around 12:15. So, I was hoping to start cleaning up house of clocks at that point and be done with the move. But you know, Murphy's Law and all.

I'm so tired, maybe I should take a nap.”

“Well, I just talked to the movers. They locked the keys in the moving truck and they're waiting for a locksmith and they probably won't be arriving un till around 11. I wish I know that earlier, I wouldn't have worked my self so hard, I would of had plenty of time to get ready this morning, but I guess I can wait.

I don't want to do this stuff at the house until they get here because I don't want to, okay, I just thought of the energy yet. I was going to come up with a really good excuse not to do yet, but I didn't really have one. So, good, I will still do it after work, they leave.

See, I'm still not fully awake, I didn't get much sleep last night, at all, umm... but... anyway... soon, soon, soon.”

Ice and Ahead

Date and Time  - Jan. 14th, 2007, 11:26 am

Current Mood  - awake awake
Current Music  - children playing upstairs

The phone and DSL are back up and the ice is melting a bit. However, we're supposed to get a few more waves of ice later today and early tomorrow. After my voice post this morning, I went outside to take some photos and in the few minutes I was out there I heard a tree collapse in the woods nearby. My brother tells me he could hear several large branches or whole trees falling every this morning near him.

-----

I ordered my bus tickets online last night, but ended up with the wrong time for my departure from London. The confirmation has me leaving at 3:50AM, but there is no way I can get a ride to London at that hour. I was planning for my departure time to be 8:00PM. Talking to a Greyhound Canada representative on the phone, I was told that I could use the tickets for any departure time as long as they are for the same day and the same person. I should be fine

“Good morning!

We got some more ice last night, the top of one of my parents trees came down. And while we have electricity this morning, we have no telephone or dsl. I'm calling in on my cell phone which apparently still works...

I... got my tickets last night for the rest of my trip. Two tickets to London, where I'll be picked up, and then go to Saint Thomas from there. And er, then tickets back from London to Boston.

And I guess, well. I'll fill you in on yesterday. I had a good time. We all, felt great to be here with my brother and sister, Maddie and Jonas, Christian and Heather, and of course my mum and dad. It's been the whole family, it's something that hasn't really happened in a long time.

i've been having a great time. The ice makes it a bit surreal, but if you know me surreal is good.

I guess that's it for the update this morning. I'll probably do more updating because, you know, I'm addicted to LiveJournal. I make lots of updates. So... that is all.”

Armbands, Tattoos, and Identification

Date and Time  - Dec. 6th, 2006, 10:09 am

Current Mood  - blank blank
Current Music  - budgies chirping in next room

found through [info]recoiling:

When radio host Jerry Klein suggested that all Muslims in the United States should be identified with a crescent-shape tattoo or a distinctive arm band, the phone lines jammed instantly.

The first caller to the station in Washington said that Klein must be "off his rocker." The second congratulated him and added: "Not only do you tattoo them in the middle of their forehead but you ship them out of this country ... they are here to kill us."

Another said that tattoos, armbands and other identifying markers such as crescent marks on driver's licenses, passports and birth certificates did not go far enough. "What good is identifying them?" he asked. "You have to set up encampments like during World War Two with the Japanese and Germans."

At the end of the one-hour show, rich with arguments on why visual identification of "the threat in our midst" would alleviate the public's fears, Klein revealed that he had staged a hoax. It drew out reactions that are not uncommon in post-9/11 America.

"I can't believe any of you are sick enough to have agreed for one second with anything I said," he told his audience on the AM station 630 WMAL, which covers Washington, Northern Virginia and Maryland

...

"Because basically what you just did was show me how the German people allowed what happened to the Jews to happen ... We need to separate them, we need to tattoo their arms, we need to make them wear the yellow Star of David, we need to put them in concentration camps, we basically just need to kill them all because they are dangerous."

...

Those in agreement are not a fringe minority: A Gallup poll this summer of more than 1,000 Americans showed that 39 percent were in favor of requiring Muslims in the United States, including American citizens, to carry special identification.

full article

39% percent is a scary number. The Nazi Party never got 39% of the German vote before Hitler became Chancellor. In fact, in the election just prior to his becoming Chancellor, the Nazi Party received only 31% of the vote. The 39% of the American public supporting the marking and separation of Muslims does not necessarily mean we will have a repeat of the Nazi atrocities, but it does mean that we are closer to the edge of that precipice than we'd like to believe.

Comcast Sucks

comcast - comcastic/craptastic

The internet has been out at the [info]house_of_clocks all week. Comcast was supposed to be over today "sometime between 7am and 7pm" to fix it. However, Comcast decided the problem was with the utility box on the poll and not with our cable modem which they had earlier concluded was the problem. They didn't call. After we waited for them all day, [info]recoiling called them a half hour before 7pm and they then told her that they had rescheduled. Now they will be coming by Monday some time between 7am and 7pm.

I'm going to talk to [info]merryperseis (who handles the cable bill) about switching to RCN when she gets home. From what I've heard, RCN has changed a lot since I had the billing problems with them many years ago. I think it's a good time to try them again.

“I'm in Buffalo, and it's neitherday; the time between days. I slept through Syracuse, and I'm in Buffalo, as I already said. I'm not actually that tired, but I am a bit discombobulated. I got a lot of good sleep on the bus, which was OK... uncomfortable... And I will be crossing the border soon! And that will probably mean the end of the voice posts because I don't know the voice post numbers after I cross the border.

I'm using the pay phone at the station because my battery is almost dead. I wasn't conservative enough in the use of my cell phone, and I don't want to run the battery out the rest of the way because I still want to be able to use it if any sort of emergency or need would arise.

But... yeah, I'm *laugh* just getting used to owning one! This is the first time I've ever owned a cell phone, ever! And it's kind of strange-feeling. I beep, now. I never really did that, before.

So.. though, no one's called me, yet, so I've never really heard the noise that my cell phone makes. And... I guess that's it for this update. My next update will probably be from Canada, or at least hopefully will be.”

“Good hello, Livejournal Land! I'm making this post from my new cell phone which John got me -- yay, John! -- got me it for the trip. I'm heading off, we're just passing through Newton, which I guess is the first stop, and then a stop in Worcester, and then Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo, where I'm going to be having a layover from 3:35AM 'til 4:45AM. Whoo! That does not sound fun. Then to Toronto, to London, and then Saint Thomas. And, I will be there! And I will get to see Amber. That will be great. *laughs* I will be very excited and probably very tired.

And then I will be heading back on the 4th and getting home on the 5th. But, on my way back, I have a five-and-a-half hour layover in the evening, in Buffalo. So, I have no idea what to do for five-and-a-half hours in Buffalo. If anyone is from Buffalo, or knows the Buffalo area, and can tell me if there is actually anything to do in Buffalo, which, I don't know if there actually is... or might even want to meet me, because that would be great, and I'm always interested in meeting new people. But, more likely, just tell me what I can do in Buffalo for five-and-a-half hours. That would be great, because I have no clue.

I will be heading home. We are stopping at Newton, and we are at the commuter rail stop in Newton where they pick up the bus passengers. And... I guess, that is this post! Hello, goodbye!”

Two Nights of Dream

Date and Time  - Jun. 27th, 2006, 09:55 am

Current Mood  - blank blank
Current Music  - fan

I've had some interesting dreams recently. The night before last, I dreamed I was on a holodeck. I kept switching through setting, but I was changing more than my environment. I was not only trying on different clothing, but different bodies. However, at some point I stopped changing and the room began changing more like a standard Star Trek holodeck. The finally room I was in was filled with shallow wooden boxes with large amounts of baby budgies. They were all blue and just getting their feathers in. They were pulling themselves from box to box, in the baby-budgie head-first method of locomotion. I was in a happy place.

Last night, I dreamed I was in a maze of a house. There was a strange man in whiteface who was running the place. The house was so large that it had a lake and a hill with cars. It was almost a village in a house. There was something wrong, a sinister air. I felt compelled to investigate what that wrong was. I followed these streams of crusty liquid up the hill and found an old stationwagon that had rusted with the years. [info]purpleglitter was with me then and at that point had been with me on my explorations in the house even though she hadn't been with me earlier in the dream. We got in the car and I was able to start it. There was a road at the top of the hill; and after driving a short distance, we realized we were on the outskirts of Moscow. We drove back to the hilltop and looked down. There was the house and all it's trapping that we had departed. I concluded that there was some sort of portal to Moscow at the top of the hill. [info]purpleglitter and I decided to drive around and explore the outskirts of Moscow. [info]purpleglitter's cell phone miraculously worked and we called [info]zarthon who told us we ought not be traveling around through portals willy-nilly and should head back at once. But we ignored him. Who was driving kept switching seamlessly in the dream, sometimes it was [info]purpleglitter sometimes it was me. The controls on the car ended up locking up and we skidded into a ditch. It faded out after that.

Somewhere in last nights dreams [info]purpleglitter and I were in a bank trying to stop a $2500 transaction from her account to a con artist. The bank was entirely bureaucratic and unhelpful, and we felt as if we were fighting against time. They kept asking invasive questions that had nothing to do with banking. Odd randomness. Why must bureaucracy even invade my dreams?

I had a pretty good birthday yesterday. Mellow, laid back, and nice.

[info]purpleglitter woke me up with coffee and breakfast. I heard frying and was very confused, as she usually doesn't cook. The faux sausage was very good, and it was a wonderful way to begin my birthday.
