Voice Post: Loudest Noise

“Greetings. I'm the Goodwill with my mom.

Looking through the book section, I came across Rush Limbaugh's book from the early '90s entitle "The Way Things Ought to Be".

It has a Time Magazine review on it, which reads, "Outrageous and impudent. Rush Limbaugh is the loudest noise in the crucial conversations America is now having with itself."

I can't help but think by "loudest noise" they mean "big fart".”

Day of Lake

Date and Time  - Dec. 20th, 2006, 10:16 am

Current Mood  - impressed impressed
Current Music  - budgies gurgling in next room

Yesterday evening was a bit of an adventure. [info]purpleglitter bought a huge club chair at the Salvation Army in Saugus on Saturday. There was no way this thing was going to fit in her car. Neither of us could find anyone with an appropriate vehicle to pick it up. Running out of options to get the thing back to Arlington, yesterday she gave in and rented a U-Haul.

However, [info]purpleglitter was very nervous driving it, and I have my vertigo spells - so it seemed a good idea if neither of us drove the thing. We called around to various people who might be able to drive it, but none of them wanted to. Eventually I drove it to Saugus and [info]purpleglitter drove it back. [info]dalious was about to help move the chair into the house, and move it he did. He took it most of the way himself, only requiring assistance to maneuver it through the doorways.

To top off day, [info]purpleglitter was named best employee at her company yesterday. She rocks. Sitting in her new throne with her certificate in hand, she knows she rocks.

Yard Sale Fabulous

I went to one of the most wonderful yard sales I've ever been to this morning, less than a block from the [info]house_of_clocks. The place was absolutely mobbed, but the stuff was awesome non-standard yard sale fair and the prices were the best I've ever seen apart from the free stuff shop. I got a bunch of bead/buttons shaped as Chinese coins, two stuffed squirrels (a momma and a baby), a travel box of oil pastels, 2 blank sketch books, 2 cool lockets (on of which I gave to [info]purpleglitter), a pair of vintage cat's eye glasses, and a stand-alone chrome ashtray for the front porch — ALL FOR FOUR BUCKS!!

I hit the motherlode of Doctor Who videos at Goodwill today! I got a little over 20 of them. I know that might sound a big crazy, but I couldn't help myself as even one is a rare find in the thrift stores. I got my favorite serial as well, Logopolis. I also got a Powerpuff Girls video, Dead Poets Society, an abacus, the Bad Cat book, and a pair of shiny purple satin pants. One of my best trips to goodwill ever!

Doctor, Adric, Nyssa, and the Watcher in Logopolis

Drugs and Basements

I finally found a place that will fill my new prescription for injectable estradiol: the Stop & Shop Pharmacy in Arlington Heights. They are going to have to order it from their distributer, but that is more than anyone else was able to do. I will be able to pick them up tomorrow. Now I need to set up an appointment with the nurse that will instruct me on giving myself shots.

-----

My landlord actually gave me a ride to the Stop & Shop Pharmacy. I was surprised by the offer, but I took him up on it. Afterwards, he asked if I wanted to go with him to his favorite thrift store in Arlington, which is located in the basement of the Fox Library and only runs two days a week. I didn't even know it existed, so I decided to go with him. The prices were very nice and the stuff was not terribly picked through. I was able to pick up a couple nice items without spending much money.

Looking West

I have been contemplating moving to Portland, OR. Portland is a liberal city with a nice public transit system. It has milder winters and summers than New England. With all that, the rents are about half that of the Boston area. Unlike SSI, the amount I get from SSDI doesn't vary with my housing costs, which means saving $200 on rent puts $200 extra in my pocket. I've long said that an extra $200 a month would be all I really need to be reasonably happy. Right now, I feel crippled socially, because I can't really go out to coffee houses and other various gathering places with friends on any sort of regular basis. $200 a month would allow me to do that and also get some new used clothing at the thrift stores. I don't know how I can make that extra money in Boston without jeopardizing my benefits. There are various illegal options available to me, and while they are tempting, I'm far too afraid of jail and prison to explore those routes. Any move to Portland won't happen until at least next fall, and even then would be contingent on a number of factors. If the housing bubble in Boston actually bursts, the move might not even be pointful, as rents here would be driven down. I'd wager even money on that happening.

Went to Goodwill with [info]purpleglitter. Got a couple new outfits, including a wonderful blue and white dress. I'm finally getting a closet full of clothes that fit.

-----

Spent quality time with [info]merryperseis this evening. We haven't really spent an evening together in a little while, so it was quite nice.

So much for short updates. I'm off to bed. Have to be up early, as I have therapy first thing in the afternoon.

Went to the Goodwill in [info]davis_square. The second time we went there this week, but [info]purpleglitter needed items from the downstairs which is closed on Thursdays. [info]purpleglitter picked up several baskets and a little wood wagon for her apartment. Then across the street to the Family Dollar, where [info]purpleglitter picked up a nice lamp and shade.

[info]purpleglitter decided to go to Pep Boys to get her oil changed on Monday or Tuesday rather than today, figuring there would be more of a wait on the weekend.

Upon returning to Arlington, [info]purpleglitter treated me to some samosa chole chat at Punjab. Yummie.

Next to Walgreens, where I picked up lightbulbs (both in my room were out), hydrocortisone, and a refill on my spironolactone.

Almost Perfect

Date and Time  - May. 11th, 2003, 02:30 pm

Current Mood  - happy happy
Current Music  - Cher - Strong Enough

Yesterday afternoon, I went to the Salvation Army with [info]merryperseis and [info]purpleglitter. I got a ton of new clothes for only $15. I didn't get as much summer stuff as I had planned, but I did get a wonderful knee-length piece of lingerie that will make a very nice summer dress.

-----

After we got back from the Salvation Army, we went and fed the geese at Spy Pond. Even the swans ate out of my hand. Only the ducks are too timid. Or too short. Or are simply afraid getting in front of the geese.

[info]merrryperseis brought bubbles. After she was done making bubbles, she let me make them. The geese didn't quite know what to make of the bubbles. They'd inspect them as they floated by and the scurry away if they got too close.

A woman who had her toddler at the pond brought her to see the bubbles. She loved playing in the bubbles. She stayed for about ten minutes as I blew bubbles at her. It was big fun. She kept reaching his hand out trying to catch one. They always seemed to miss her hand and hit her face. She didn't seem to mind. In fact she laughed every time one hit her face.

I took much time to smell the flowers on the way back. Spy Pond is a little piece of paradise right in Arlington.

-----

After Spy Pond, we sat and talked in the livingroom fo an hour or so, then [info]purpleglitter went home. Rosey joined [info]merryperseis and I on a trip to the Diesel Café. The Diesel's front windows can be raised in a garage door type fashion as they were today. We sat at a table right on the edge of the sidewalk, which was very convenient, as Rosey could smoke and talk to us at the same time.

-----

Back at home, [info]merryperseis and I spent a beautiful romantic evening together. The day would have been perfect if I didn't have a freakout in the closet after [info]merryperseis went to bed. I woke her up and she helped me get back into a good state so I could sleep. Even with that sour note, the day was wonderful, One I wouldn't mind repeating.

Went to the Salvation Army with [info]purpleglitter. She bought me a wonder pair of knee high boots we found there for only $5. They will look perfect with my school girl outfits. I'm very excited.

-----

[info]merryperseis took me out to Buddha's Delight for a very belated birthday dinner. The food was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. It's such a good feeling being able to order anything from the menu.

After dinner, [info]merryperseis and I took a stroll down the bike trail in the gentle evening mist holding hands and occasionally kissing. She was so incredibly beautiful tonight. My bunny angel.

[info]zarthon took [info]merryperseis and I out to lunch at Akbar today. Yummy yummy Indian Food. After lunch, we went to the Diesel Café for chai.

Next, we went to Goodwill, where I got a new pair of buckle shoes. I love buckles. They're not the big buckles like I've worn in the past, but buckles they be.

We got back to the [info]house_of_clocks and sat around the table in my room chatting. I dearly need to do some cleaning. I haven't been in a state to get much of it done. Soon, I plan to have a clean room. Soon. Soon I will. I must. I can't stand living in this pit. This must change.

-----

At around 9:00pm, [info]merryperseis and I went to Porter Square in search of my make-up. I'm afraid that my current powder, Revlon Shine Control, may be discontinued. It's the most wonderful powder, and I really don't want to have to search for a new one. I'm going to check a couple other places tomorrow to see if I can find any.

-----

I put the new buttons on my outfit for Man Ray tomorrow. [info]purpleglitter will be coming over to take piccies, which I'll post here. I'm very excited about it.

Until today, we didn't know how to turn on the chandelier in the playroom. We thought it must be broken. However, today, [info]purpleglitter noticed a small knob on the side of the chandelier. No one had noticed it before. I turned it, and it fell off. Fell right into a glass of cider. And since the knob is solid brass, it made quite a splash. I put it back on and turned it the other way. The chandelier came to life.

I received two letters from [info]vagrant in my post office box. I'm very excited to hear from her, and I hope she gets out of that place soon. It doesn't seem like she will, but I can still hope for her. I plan to send off a letter to her Monday.

I should have received her letters several weeks ago, but I haven't been checking my post office box very frequently. I should direct people send mail to my home address from now on. The post office box served a purpose before we moved. The mailbox at the old place wasn't very secure, and we had numerous instances of disappearing mail. However, here at the new [info]house_of_clocks, that isn't an issue.

-----

After dropping off Mitzi in Davis Square, [info]purpleglitter and I went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Winter Hill. I picked up several exciting new outfits. Everything I bought was half off! The most expensive article of clothing cost me only $2!! It was a very happy shopping experience.

I'm home!! Oh, how excited I am to be home!! I'm so very very happy to be out of that place.

On the way home [info]purpleglitter and I went to the K-Mart in Newburyport, and got much needed new pillows. We made another stop in Saugus to go to the Salvation Army. I picked up several exciting new outfits.

I probably have digested more calories since I left Anna Jaques than the entire time I was there! My eating problems got so out of control in there. Most days, I purged 5 or 6 times. It'll be a hard task over the next few days to try to get my eating problems back where they were before I went in. Then, maybe, I can consider progress.

I'm going to make a series of posts about my stay at Anna Jaques. There's too much for just one post, so I'm going to make a post for each day, starting with Wednesday.

Shirley Temple

Current Music  - Cranes - Watersong

Madeline is so cute! She's very big for 2. She looks a lot like Shirley Temple. Much more so than the child actress who plays Shirley Temple in the new movie on TV. She's got the cutest banana curls. We went to Boston Public Gardens. Madeline loved the squirrels. She kept trying to feed them, but they wouldn't come up and take the food from her hand, so she'd end up throwing the food at them. She wanted to see and feel everything. Every rock, every tree, everything. Her big eyes just beaming to take in a world of marvelous things. She collects rocks. She loves them. Next time I see her I'm going to make sure I have a nice rock to give her.

After the walk, Madeline was tired so Bridgette left her with Christian's (Madeline's father) mother. Bridgette, Christian, and I then went to get lunch. Christian is a very nice person. Very intelligent. I got along with him well.

On my way home, I stopped at 7 or 8 shops looking for cat's eye glasses. Didn't find any.

[info]purpleglitter showed me three new outfits she picked up for me while she was out at the Salvation Army. All of them are wonderful and monochrome jewel. I really needed some new outfits that go along with my new style, as I only had 4 outfits that really fit.

Yesterday and Today

Current Music  - Danielle Dax - Inky Bloaters

Yesterday, after the roommate interview, I went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store and picked up a couple new outfits. One of them I really like (a red crinkled blouse), as it is incredibly flattering.

We rented Legally Blonde last night. Bad. Really bad.

Kat came over last night. I don't get to see enough of her, she's quite the social butterfly.

Today, the only real plan I have is to go grocery shopping at Market Basket. Other than that, I really should try to write something or do some art. I'm often too lazy about those things.
