Project NaNoWriMo — Goals

Date and Time  - Oct. 22nd, 2007, 11:26 am

Current Mood  - awake awake
Current Music  - Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

I'm going to attempt nanowrimo this year. I've got a book that's been kicking around the back of my head for the last few months, and I want to get it written. I'm contemplating self-publishing it on neitherday.com if I succeed in getting the book written. Neitherday.com has been languashing for a while anyway and at this point is only a shallow echo of this journal. I'd like to actually make it into something.

On School Shootings

Date and Time  - Apr. 24th, 2007, 11:36 am

Current Mood  - hot hot
Current Music  - pitter patter of budgie feet

Before I had a livejournal, I wrote something on neitherday.com about school shootings. It was taken down in one of the site redesigns, but seeing as it is relevant to recent events, I thought I'd repost it here:

March 7th, 2001

School shootings, once something totally unheard of, have quickly become a part of the national landscape. Most of these shootings are performed by students who are ostracized and harassed by fellow students.

While I don't believe in violence, as someone who was picked on quite a bit in school, I can see the motivations at work inside these kids. The main difference between now and when I was in high school is that when I was in high school kids who were ostracized had no real way of striking back. Now things are different. Teenagers have now heard of a method (while not one that I endorse) of striking back.

Bullying, ostracization, teasing, vandalism, and even violent acts are committed against students who happen to be different in some way. Now, as when I was in school, there are rules against most of the offenses committed against non-conforming students. But we all know that in most situations school officials turn a blind eye to acts of harassment.

The problem of school shootings will only get worse until these problems are addressed. Unfortunately, most plans that have been adopted only increase ostracization of students that don't fit into the norm. This is equivalent to pouring gasoline on a fire to put it out. For the safety and well-being of all students we need to promote acceptance and tolerance in our schools.

Time for a Change

Date and Time  - Dec. 13th, 2006, 01:20 pm

Current Mood  - contemplative contemplative
Current Music  - budgies in conference in next room

The current incarnation of neitherday.com is tired. I want to move on to something new. I'm think of moving the site away from the decentralized splatter that is the current content to something more vertical. I'm thinking of a spirituality/religious focus. I have a couple cool ideas. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I can start making the transition.

I made a major design change to my website. The old design was wonderful, but it didn't speak to me anymore. The modified design is more what I want it to look like, I just hope the text is readable enough.

Website Woes

Date and Time  - Jun. 19th, 2004, 07:24 pm

Current Mood  - melancholy melancholy
Current Music  - Nirvana - Lithium

My website is outdated. it needs to be completely overhauled. i haven't done anything with it in years. I really should update it. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Transgurl section all together. The section never really met it's true potential, and I'm a little embarrassed by it's poor quality.

I'm just not motivated to work on my site though. I need a new idea to get me going. Maybe I'll get some help from [info]purpleglitter after she finishes the Francesca Lia Block shrine. I know my way around web design, but [info]purpleglitter is a genius at it. Something must be done with my site. By the end of the summer I want something I can be proud of.

A Beautiful Mind

Date and Time  - Nov. 30th, 2003, 09:33 pm

Current Mood  - indescribable indescribable
Current Music  - traffic

Just watched A Beautiful Mind. Amazing movie. Very inspirational. Makes me want to get back into math. It made me believe again that anything is possible. I had been thinking about studying math again earlier this month, but I got distracted. I'm going to head to the library this week and begin studying. I used to be so good at math. I really want to get back into it. I'm probably going to put A Beautiful Mind on my movie list.

Deals

Current Music  - The Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down to Georgia

I've gotten a lot done today. This afternoon I made a deal with Lake. She'll clean my playroom (which she'll do later) and I'll move everything from her office to the livingroom (because her office is about to become Petra's room). There was a lot of stuff in Lake's office. It took me two hours of almost non-stop sweaty work, but I got it done.

After that I took a nice long shower.

Late this afternoon I helped [info]vonjenef customize her lj over yahoo messenger. Didn't help as much as I could have in person, but she is far away from here, stuck in Missouri.

This evening I added a page for Requiem for a Dream to my movie section. Lake found the links in exchange for setting up Lake's computer in the livingroom. Lake is a computer genius and perfectly capable of setting up her own computer, but she was tired out from setting up everything else for her office in the livingroom.

It might seem unfair that I still have my playroom and Lake loses her office, but there is a major advantage for her to move her office in the livingroom: it is air conditioned. In this weather that is a BIG advantage.

New Task

Date and Time  - Aug. 3rd, 2001, 03:37 pm

Current Mood  - mellow mellow
Current Music  - Vangelis - Rachel's Song

I couldn't work on perl in the heat, so I set my mind to finding something that required less mental processing power. I didn't want anything that involved any physical exertion, so that cut down the options. I finally settled on painting wish pods. I got quite a few painted. I think I'm going to just relax the rest of the afternoon. Maybe take a nap. That sounds good.

Haven't really been getting much done. Too hot to think well. I'm spending more time working on cooling down than working on my project. Much more. I'll try to get back to work this evening after it's cooled down some.

Good Morning

Date and Time  - Aug. 3rd, 2001, 10:56 am

Current Mood  - determined determined
Current Music  - Madonna - La Isla Bonita

I'll start with yesterday. I worked most of yesterday trying to write a perl script for my web site. Didn't really get very far. I've tweaked perl scripts before, but never really wrote one myself from scratch. I'm stuck on something that should be quite simple. I just don't seem to be able to get the damn thing to work. Will try again today.

John, Lake and I went out to see Moulan Rouge last night. Wonderful movie, although not what I expected. Sort of like Caravaggio with a sound track. I wore the hat I found rummaging through my old stuff. Kinda frumpy with flowers in the front. Went perfectly with my new look.

I don't know what it is with movies. I enjoy seeing them, but we're always unstable after watching them. Last night was no exception. After the movie I felt nervous and jittery. Switched to Starflower. Starflower is nice. We all like her. She younger and happy. Very curious about everything. Everything seems new to her. She's a sweetheart.

After her came Shirley. Lake gave us two Seroquels and we went to sleep.

Woke up about an hour and a half ago. Made a breakfast my stomach didn't agree with. Still bothering me a little. Now I'm getting ready to take another crack at that annoying perl script. Here goes...
